So i just screw up my courage, tell myself *I am older, bigger, and nicer than the sales person, and entitled to not give a damn what they may think, and ask for a discount. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But what are they gonna do, report me to the style police?

Rich

and ps: I'd for sure try the broccoli thing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9032215061405269161.post-29359347986631418242009-01-05T12:28:00.000-08:002009-01-05T12:28:00.000-08:00Life Imitating Blogs -- the LA Times reported toda...Life Imitating Blogs -- the LA Times reported today that there is now a cologne available that smells like a locker room.

If you already read -- or if you go to the archives -- my 2008 wrap up, you'll know why I'm not surprised about that new scent.

LloydLloyd Garverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09687515929481798044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9032215061405269161.post-7842594822169596322009-01-05T07:27:00.000-08:002009-01-05T07:27:00.000-08:00Mon, 05-Jan-09Terrible haggler here too, Mr. Garve...Mon, 05-Jan-09

Terrible haggler here too, Mr. Garver; but, sometimes I just screw up my courage and go for it. Best Buy, Staples? Nah, they're so crooked there, it's not worth the effort. Street vendors, and off-price stores, yeah, I'll give it a go, especially if I have some knowledge of the product[s] I'm eyeing.
Car dealerships? You either deal with me up from your invoice ... or I leave the premises. I've had to leave many more times than I've been able to make the deal, but that's my rules on car purchases. I only have to do it every 10 years, or so. The car I'm discarding? That's a private sale.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9032215061405269161.post-30678955577568341372009-01-04T13:51:00.000-08:002009-01-04T13:51:00.000-08:00While I understand not enjoying the bargaining pro...While I understand not enjoying the bargaining process, there are easy times to do it and yes, if you ask, you will receive.

On Dec. 24th, I went to a Staples to buy a much needed new fax machine. Being broke from the holiday's, I found the least expensive one that would be the best quality for the price. There was one left. The box had been damaged, though. There wasn't a line at the cashier. While the box was being scanned I pointed out its damage and stated that it was the last one and said that I was GIFTING it. "Is there anyway you can mark this down a bit because of this?", I asked. The clerk called the manager over and he took off $10. The fax machine, already on sale (originally $79), went from $59 to $49 and the sales tax was also less due to the price. Did I haggle? Maybe. Was that a nice difference in my pocket? Yes. Would I have been more pleased having not asked? Absolutely not. If appropriate, always ask. By not asking you close doors to opportunity.GoGreenGetGreenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14051160643888638454noreply@blogger.com
